Defending himself "against a charge of affected importance"; telling him that he has "secured lodgings" for him for his visit to Edinburgh; describing a drunken night passed "in the arms of a whore" and his resolution "to keep the strictest watch over [his] passions"; telling him that he "must resolve to visit [Boswell's] Goddess."
