Summary
Commenting on a letter from Temple's father that he opened and read; speaking of the financial hardships Temple is facing: "You have indeed My friend been very unfortunate at your entry into life; but your bad fortune has served as a touchstone to try your Virtue, of the power of which neither your friends nor even yourself could be so fully convinced had Prosperity beamed upon you with unclouded ray"; mentioning "Bob" and his trip "to Salisbury to attend the Assises"; describing a visit to [Samuel] Johnson's "garret up four pair of Stairs."
