Notes
Marked "Private."
Part of a collection of letters from Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent, to Colonel Frederick Augustus Wetherall. Items in the collection are described in separate records; see MA 2909 for details.
The end of the letter and the signature are lacking, but it is the same hand as the three previous letters which seem to be signed "R. Manners" [Robert Manners?]. The writer appears to be someone who was part of the Duke of Kent's inner circle.
Summary
Agreeing with Wetherall's assessment that "the Duke of Clarence [William IV] having determined on not coming to England for the confinement of his Dutchess, is an additional Argument, why the Duke of Kent should do the Contrary"; noting that unless the Duke's friends help him immediately, he won't be able to move from Amorbach; telling him that he is including extracts from a letter from the Duke of Cambridge (this was apparently on the pages at the end of the letter that are lacking); discussing the Duke of Kent's efforts to raise funds to travel to England.
