Acknowledging two of his letters; thanking him for "the friendly manner in which [he] congratulates [the Duke of Kent] upon [his] appointment to the Command of this Garrison [Gibraltar]"; writing, "I assure you I have a very uphill game [at this garrison], for never was discipline any where so let down as I found it here"; informing him that "Parsonage will be appointed Town Major from the 1st of December" but has not arrived yet; discussing the reduction in military forces in North America during the peace and various military personnel moves; mentioning seeds and plants that Dalton is bringing back from North America; asking to be remembered to Sir John and Lady Wentworth; observing, "the mails over land are now regularly established, and we receive letters also by the Lisbon Packets"; complaining of the climate in Gibraltar.
