Summary
Reporting that he has received the letters Wetherall sent with Dalton; discussing shared acquaintances in the military; noting that he "learnt with much regret the reduction of [Wetherall's] and General Bowyer's pay and allowances, for the saving is a pitiful one to Government, and by both [Wetherall and Bowyer] ... it cannot but be felt"; praising Dalton's conduct since he arrived at the garrison in Gibraltar; remarking that he hopes to be able to stop on his way home to see his brother Augustus [Duke of Sussex]; telling him about letters he has received (mostly from people asking for various favors) and asking him to answer some of the letters for him; sending Madame de Laurent's "kindest remembrances" to Wetherall and his wife; observing that Madame de Laurent "has suffered a good deal both from climate and the events [they] have experienced here"; hoping "old England will set her up again."
