Summary
Annoucing his arrival in Gibraltar on May 10; advising him to read his letters to General Bowyer for the particulars of his efforts to "get the Garrison [at Gibraltar] in any degree into a state of discipline and regularity"; noting that "all things considered, [he has] got through [his] first two months here with less injury to [his] health than [he] expected"; remarking that "Madame de Laurent ... has also had occasion to complain of the effects of the Climate"; adding that he hopes to go to Spain "so as to avoid the most trying moment of the Year, and after that is over to return again [to Gibraltar]"; discussing his efforts to get the living quarters at the garrison into order; asking him to close his accounts in North America and "to remit whatever Balance there may be in [his] favour to Mr. Coutts"; addressing Wetherall's "views of a provision in India" and arguing that there is "a certainty of a refusal" right now; commenting on various military men and their requests for transfers, promotions, etc.
