Relating news of his arrival in Lisbon and news of the ship; commenting "I am afraid this will be a dull Port for Promotion - nothing to get the Captains out of the way;" telling him that there are good topazes and good wine if he would like to have him buy some for him; expecting Monsieur Junot to "make his appearance here therefore we are all getting prepared - he must beat a furor of those ugly Highlanders without their Bacchus before they come here and they know thats no easy matter, we expect Sir Arthur Wellesley any Day...God knows when I will see you again."
