Remarking that he has been "at home some three weeks -- and the absence of excitement has contributed to render [his] state of health more comfortable"; discussing the abolition movement and noting that he "cannot see eye to eye with [William Lloyd] Garrison & Mrs. [Maria Weston] Chapman"; arguing that "there is a dictatorial, ... intolerant spirit about them"; wishing he could accept May's invitation to visit Scituate; lamenting the loss of Dr. [Joseph] Parrish of Philadelphia and writing lines to commemorate him.
