Telling him that they expect to be in London by March or the beginning of April; advising him to have nothing more to do with [Basil] Montagu; remarking that he is glad he will see his history of the French Revolution before it goes to press, and warning him against giving "The Diamond Necklace" to Fraser because "the half profit system is as good as throwing away your labour altogether"; mentioning a ball he attended at which he spoke to [Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von] Schelling; commenting on Lady Clare's health and noting that they have been reading together in the afternoons; observing that he hopes to see Gustave d'Eichthal in Paris.
