Summary
Thanking him for his letter written from Scotsbrig; hoping he made it back to London and "found Jane [Carlyle] and her mother in good health"; charging him "to set about the task of writing the continuation of [his] history of the [French] Revolution with calmness and trustfulness instead of that feverish heat and anxiety which exhaust the very sources of health and leave [him] worn and miserable"; exhorting his brother not to worry about "pecuniary difficulties ... as there can be no reasonable fear of such for a considerable time to come"; reminding him that they "made a compact to assist each other" and he [J.A. Carlyle] is making good money now; adding that Lady Clare is recommending him to English acquaintances in Munich; mentioning that "Fraser" is in Munich and he has been seeing a lot of him and attending his child; remarking that he gave Fraser a copy of Sartor Resartus to read; informing him that Lady Clare plans to remain in Munich until the spring; giving him a new address in Munich.
