Summary
Reporting that his affairs are not settled yet and he is waiting for an "interview" with the "advocate"; telling Carlyle that he approves of his plan to come to London in July; remarking that "the best way of coming is by the steam boat to Liverpool & from there with some of the heavy coaches"; proposing that they stay in a "quiet lodging"; explaining why they should not stay at Montague's or [James] Fraser's; praising his brother's writing and naming as its "only fault" that "it is too high & sustained for almost all English readers"; observing that "this fault ... arises almost entirely from [Carlyle's] isolation & consequent want of knowledge of the audience [he has] to address"; discussing some things he is having published in Fraser's Magazine; noting that he saw Charles Buller and went on a long walk with him; mentioning Edward Irving.
