Summary
Summarizing, at length and in detail, the events leading up to and surrounding the resignations of George Canning and the Duke of Portland and the misunderstandings between Canning and Lord Castlereagh; informing him that he has offered his own resignation and that he has learned that "the King must have determined on not calling for Canning's aid in forming His Government;" speculating on other resignations that may follow and to whom new positions may be offered; adding, in a postscript, "Lord Chatham is returned much out of humour, and does not attend the meetings of those who are now arranging the Government; adding, in a 2nd postscript, that "Rose consented, after much hesitation, to remain Treasurer of the Navy; adding that he has not shared the information in the letter with Lord Melville as he was not certain he would keep it confidential but giving him permission to share it as he wished.
