Asking him to remember that when he "reminded Your Grace last week of Lord Wellesley's intended succession to the War Department, I knew not that your Grace had any thought of retiring;" discussing further the difficulties surrounding the resignation; concluding that he "could not honestly be party to the arrangement being carried into effect under circumstances which might deprive it of all its benefit."
