Docketed.
With a postscript, written above the salutation, in the autograph of The Marquess of Wellington and signed with the initial "W", "Send express to the Surgeon General with my congratulations. July 23rd."
Part of a large collection of letters from and to George Canning. Letters are described in individual records; see MA 854-855 for more detail.
Reporting that Canning wishes him "to say that he has now an opportunity of complying with the request made by Lord Wellesley last April, to attach Mr. Crampton to a Foreign Mission. The mission to which Mr. Canning proposes to attach him is Mr. Foster's at Turin. Mr. Foster is son of the late Duchess of Devonshire, and was for some time our Minister at the Court of Denmark. Mr. Canning desires me to add that he hopes that Mr. Crampton's friends are aware that an attaché is unpaid, & that services in that capacity give no claim to further promotion."
