Summary
Reporting that Canning wishes him "to say that he has now an opportunity of complying with the request made by Lord Wellesley last April, to attach Mr. Crampton to a Foreign Mission. The mission to which Mr. Canning proposes to attach him is Mr. Foster's at Turin. Mr. Foster is son of the late Duchess of Devonshire, and was for some time our Minister at the Court of Denmark. Mr. Canning desires me to add that he hopes that Mr. Crampton's friends are aware that an attaché is unpaid, & that services in that capacity give no claim to further promotion."
