Summary
Telling him that Sydenham will inform him of everything that has transpired, "of the State of Parties, and of the Public mind; Having seen Perceval and Bathurst he will be able to explain to you their sentiments - I could not in a letter attempt to state any thing to you which you would not be informed of much more perfectly by Sydenham and as to offering any opinion of the mode of proceeding that you may be inclined to hold, of course I should not presume to do it from the Line...Sydenham will tell you that I succeed Dundas as Chief Secretary in Ireland, and he will also be able to inform you why I accept the Office now 'tho I thought it best to refuse it when it was proposed to me on Arthurs resignation;" saying that Sydenham will be leaving that evening and "If he should bring us the joyful news that you belong to our Party it will make me most happy, and it is my firm belief that it will be most gratifying to the whole Country, and certainly will secure us a very strong Administration. We have not had any dispatches from you since the end of August."
