Summary
Concerning his "continuance in Spain. "Under the present circumstances, whatever may be the result of my application to this Government, no advantage is likely to arise from my delay, after I shall have ascertained precisely their intentions and views. I shall probably be able to determine the point in a few days. If the Junta should resolve to hold their seats and to ruin the Country, I cannot escape too soon from such a scene; If they should adopt my views, an interview with you will be absolutely necessary for the arrangements of so great and new a situation of affairs. In either case, I propose to use the circular order from the Admiralty, on or about the 15th of October, either from Lisbon or Cadiz, as may be most easy at the moment. If upon my arrival in England, you should think my return to Spain necessary, I shall be ready to make any just and reasonable sacrifice, or, in other words, any sacrifice, which you may require to the public service;" asking him to obtain for him the "King's special Leave" if it is required for his return.
