Saying how much he misses her; noting that it hard to write since she went away; describing his role in the division and mentioning the caputure of a motorcade; saying "I miss you so I am hollow and to fill the hollow I put war in day and night. But it is a lousy substitute." Continuing the letter the following day (Aug. 1), saying he knows he can write a good story once he is alone with a typewriter; mentioning mutual acquaintances; sending love from all.
