Summary
Thanking M. de Ruffey for his condolescences on the death of his father [Benjamin-François Leclerc de Buffon]; writing that his own health is failing and that he wishes to take the air in Bourgogne; hoping that M. de Ruffey will keep the property at Montfort, but that he will give warning should he choose to sell; mentioning a letter that he has received from Mme de Ruffey concerning [the career of her son-in-law, Claude-François, marquis de Monnier] at the Chambre des comptes de Dôle; explaining that he is unable to help because [Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux], comte de Maurepas has referred him to M. le Garde des Sceaux [Armand Thomas Hue de Miromesnil], in whose office he got the impression that the Chambre des comptes des parlements did not see a connection between themselves and the Chambre des comptes de Dôle, and that there was nothing to be done by "un particulier comme [lui]."
