Thanking M. de Ruffey for helping [Charlotte-Louise de Fortia], marquise de Scorailles; writing that he plans to finish L'histoire naturelle before the age of 68, though he turned 58 the previous September; describing his plans for finishing the publication of the work; explaining that he only has twenty-six remaining subscriptions and that M. de Ruffey should write to him immediately if he wishes to take one; recommending that he order the work in "grand papier" like M. [René-Joseph] Hébert; advising him to purchase the subscription on behalf of his Académie, using the funds of this organization; discussing the prices for already-published volumes, as well as the subscription; mentioning his wish to see M. [Charles] de Brosse[s].
