Explaining that he received M. de Ruffey's previous letter more than six weeks after it was written; advising him not to internalize the struggles and problems in his professional and academic life; complimenting him on the criteria he has chosen for awarding prizes [at the Académie de Dijon]; pointing out that M. de Ruffey has not told him whether he has received volumes ten and eleven of [L'histoire naturelle] that he sent care of M. [Charles] de Brosse[s] the previous summer; writing that volumes twelve and thirteen will appear after Easter and that he thinks M. de Ruffey will like them; recounting that he plans to return to Montbard at the same time; lamenting that he will no longer see M. de Ruffey at Montbard.
