Summary
Explaining that his wife is convalescing from giving birth [to their son, Georges-Louis-Marie, born 1764 May 22] and that he hopes to return to Montbard the following month; observing that all companies are difficult to manage, and that zeal is not always a good quality; writing that M. de Ruffey's former secretary [Jean-Bernard Michault] was a good man, though flighty, but that M. de Ruffey is more forgiving than other men; describing a former Ruffey employee, M. L'ardillon, who was steadier, but unhappy; commenting that, "Il faut que les Compangies soient pedantes et il faut au Contraire que ceux qui les mènent soient fort lestes"; suggesting that M. Le Goux Morin [Bénigne de Le Goux de Gerland] would be useful; concluding that M. [Joseph Durey de Sauroy, marquis] du Ter[r]ail is a less attractive possibility because his only advantage is money; explaining that he has two volumes of L'histoire naturelle to send, probably via M. [Charles] de Brosse[s], whom he has not yet seen.
