Summary
Apologizing for the scarcity of his letters; explaining that he must not write often because his eyes have become very weak; recounting the death of his child during the year: "j[']ai perdu un enfant qui commencait deja a se faire entendre c'est a dire aimer"; explaining that his wife was very sick as well and is still recovering; thanking the Ruffey couple on his wife's behalf for their thoughts for her; writing that he hopes to take his wife to Paris for the winter, though they do not expect it to be a good experience: "tout y est cher, tout y est triste"; explaining that he has sent his "vaisselle a [la] Monnaie," and that it is unfair to ask so much of the poor; asking him whether he is not upset by the misfortunes of the poor.
