Summary
Explaining long silence between letters (of which M. de Ruffey complained) by recounting the story of a letter he posted from Genoa which has not yet been received; offering to bring presents from Italy; indicating address to which response should be sent: "M. Tomasso Baldi Banchiere a Florence" ; discussing the anticipated arrival in Rome of the French ambassador, [Paul-Hippolyte de Beauvilliers], duc de Saint-Aignan; describing Carnaval in Rome; comparing warm weather in Rome to weather in France, which he supposes is snowy because the post has been late.
