Summary
Giving an account of the illness from which the author is recovering, given as an excuse for lateness of his response; describing the cities of La Rochelle and Rochefort, which the author finds very pleasant, praising the openness with which they have embraced being bourgeois; comparing these cities and Dijon, which he finds overly obsessed with status; explaining the effect of travel and experience on his opinion of his own country; indicating the address to which the reply should be sent: "M. Leclerc chez My Lord Duc de Kingston à l'adresse de Mr Alexandre Gordon Négotiant a Bourdeaux."
