Summary
Apologizing that he is returning his manuscript which "came too late for the final number I'll be editing of the Adelphi. The 'job' is too costly (it has lost £100 a number so far)...and I'm not an editor & must get on with my own writings, which are choked by the worry etc of the magazine. So there's no point in continuing, especially as about 120% of one's income already has to go to household, education, etc expenses. Its a far cry from the days when you were reviewing for the Athenaeum under J.M.M. And I was writing the B. Years & old Mr. Davies was sneering at it & Frank sneering at both you, me and him. 28 years in fact - & now the B. Years is in the Penguin & seems to be the best-liked because simplest of the books;" asking how he is and saying he may be passing his way on the way to Dover and France "in an Aston-Martin 2-litre complete with new wife, the one dreamed of ever since about 1912. A 'T.E.L' indeed, a Barleybright, I['m] wondering [if] you saw F.[rank] D.[avis]'s portrait in 'Sun in Sands', plus his father etc?"
