Summary
Noting that "there's nothing to be said of our army lives"; commenting on a fellow soldier's "Christian calendar": "There are cows on it. You peel off the days. Each day has a verse and I always find them prophetic"; thanking him for having oil paints sent "for a fine self-taught artist [he] found here in the jungle"; writing, "About the news of your induction: I have had a continuous nightmare of your rolling over the country in stinking Pullmans. Your description supports my nightmares, worse luck."
