Complaining that he has spent all morning typing thank you letters for Christmas fruitcakes; commenting on his visit to San Francisco and Berkeley; describing the restaurant where he ate lunch; hoping he will get to "go again as correspondent for the magazine," and boasting that he has "turned into a fine tramp, knowing all the ropes on how to get from island and to ingratiate [him]self with any branch of the service [he] might find [him]self with"; describing his travels during the past year; sending him a carbon copy of a poem, "Soldier Food."
