Summary
Writing to Parsons about his recent review of Day Lewis's book in the Spectator; noting that Parsons's "last paragraph, with the exception of its concluding ten lines, seems to [him] the most valuable criticism that could have been made"; explaining his objection to the last ten lines of the review; saying that he thinks Parsons "lose[s] sight of the real theme of the book"; remarking that the book was "written during the nine months before [his] first child was born, & that is the central fact"; observing that "critics, in complicating the issues involved, are apt to criticize that book for something which it was never intended to be."
