Summary
Thanking him for sending Piers Prodigal, Davie's first book of poems, but admitting that he has not had time to read it yet; giving his opinion of modern poetry reviews: "As for reviews today I fear that this matter so far as poetry is concerned, is in the hands of a group who have little use for the poetry of the past, or in contemporary work that is rooted in tradition. It is all part of the disease of Western Europe and its arts. If Europe survives, so too will the art forms enshrined in it, and we must have faith that this will be the direction which history takes."
