Summary
An incomplete and unpublished manuscript, presumably meant to be a fourth volume of Sassoon's autobiography (following Siegfried's Journey). MA 5136 includes notes, outlines, an uncorrected typsecript, and heavily corrected drafts for a number of disconnected passages of various lengths, including a "Prelude" dated 1949 Nov. 8 and other sections bearing various dates but no years. The memoir includes a long and detailed account of the writing of Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man and refers to many of his contemporaries including Thomas Hardy, T.E. Lawrence, the Sitwells, Lord Berners, William Walton, Edmund Gosse, and others. This item also includes an outline of plans for another book (possibly an additional book to follow the Sherston Trilogy).
