Summary
Giving permission for anyone to correct the copy she sent of the 'Head'; referring to a delivery of a basket of flowers and fruit; saying "I could not receive her presents. She bound my books magnificently & presented them to Mrs. Chisholm as her own writing! She spoke of 'her last new work Avilier' to somebody else!! And cruelest cut of all - she said Messrs. Chapman & Hall give or have given her £400 for each of the Novels!!! I believe she is daft on this subject, poor soul, or else I should certainly take proceedings against her - But she does herself more harm than me;" saying that the messenger told her he got her address from his house; saying she turned them away "with a twinge" as the "flowers smelled so sweet - & I do like flowers so - But of course I had no alternative." asking, in a postscript, if Mrs. Chapman knows "any quiet couple who w'd take my house - just as it is- till October" so that she could go to the country.
