Thanking him for his letter; remarking "it is a good thing to say "No" kindly;" asking whether she should consider his "decision as fixed - or in any way depending on the success of the Ogilvies? - As, if the former case, I should wish immediately to try some other publisher;" asking if he would keep the manuscript until she returns home; adding, in a postscript, that she understands "the justice of your observation about delaying this little book until the novel has appeared - but unfortunately we poor authors can seldom wait."
