Thanking him for the check for £50 and saying she will not ask for the remaining £50 until publication; asking when it will be published and "will it be Before or after Mrs. Gaskell?" saying she had an offer to write a novel for a magazine for £400, "a strong temptation -- but I can't make up my mind. -- I won't write a bad book, even for £400 --& if I find I can work well -- I would rather work for you;" mentioning that Sampson Low "only mentioned £20 to you -- not £30 -- was it true?"
