Explaining that he has not written because he has been busy with Homer; commenting on the winter weather and complaining that it prevents him from seeing the Chesters; reporting that Mr. [John] Throckmorton made him "a handsome present of a Folio edition of the Iliad published about a year since at Venice"; wishing Bagot and his wife a happy new year; mentioning that his "paper mourns for the death of Lord Cowper, my valuable Cousin and much my Benefactor."
