Summary
Referring to [Samuel] Johnson's "perverse judgment ... of [British] poets in general," and arguing that he depreciat[es] some of the best [poets]" and "mak[es] honorable mention of others ... not undeservedly neglected"; saying that he thinks Johnson would not have liked [John] Milton's Paradise Lost if he had been Milton's contemporary; noting that Bagot always comes up with quotations that are applicable "to the present condition of France."
