Summary
Noting that her letters usually take six months to reach him; discussing his recent "small tours" in Greece; mentioning again that he swam across the Hellespont from Sestos to Abydos "in imitation of Leander"; telling her that he sent [William] Fletcher home: "the perpetual lamentations for beef and beer, the stupid bigotted contempt for everything foreign, and insurmountable incapacity of acquiring even a few words of any language, rendered him like all other English servants, an encumbrance"; telling her that he needs Hanson's remittances to return home as he is "out of pocket"; commenting on the importance of travel and conversing with people from other nations; reporting that he keeps no journal, and swearing that he is "done with authorship."
