Giving details of his travels through Portugal and Spain; reporting that he found Lisbon not "worthy of description ... it contains little but filthy streets & more filthy inhabitants"; speaking favorably of Sintra: "to make amends for [Lisbon] the village of Cintra about fifteen miles from the capitol is perhaps in every respect the most delightful in Europe"; describing his travels in Spain; commenting on the Spanish women he encountered; mentioning a visit to Xeres and a meeting with Mr. Gordon of Scotland, "a great merchant" of sherry; observing that Spanish women "throw off all restraint" when they marry; telling her that he is going to Africa next; listing the various people he has visited; discussing the marriage of Lord Grey de Ruthyn.
