Inquiring as to the health of his mother and asking how she took the journey to Newstead; expressing her concern that he may not have received her last letter; asking him to "extract from our Pedigree in your possession the genealogy from the time of Little Sir John;" asking if he has read Mr. Galt [Life of Byron] and referring to the 'Bar & Sinister' of Sir Nicholas and the line of inheritance through Sir John to his sons; saying she will explain to him "the motive for this little bit of curiosity;" adding what happy memories she has of her visit to the Abbey last year; adding that she will miss Captain and Mrs. D'Aguilar but trusts "that the change is for their good and comfort & I try to be as little selfish on the subject as I can."
