Summary
Informing him that he received a letter which "inform'd me that the Mandamus has been carry'd by L'd Holderness to the King & signed by him; but as I have had no other than this private notice, it will be impossible for me to take my degree before the Duke of N. goes down to Cambridge & at that time there are many reasons beside the [illegible] of such an occasion that would make it disagreeable to me;" asking for a delay because of the state of his health.
