Congratulating him on his marriage; joking that even though Fred did not "ask [for his] consent", he "freely forgive[s him] & approve[s] of the union"; remarking that he has "resolved to defer no longer this important duty" [marriage], but that he needs to find a lady "suited to [his] taste" giving news of their college friends; explaining that it took him so long to write back because he was in Virginia; noting that he would like to visit Fred in New York, but he feels he must apply himself to his work as a lawyer.
