Commenting on a translation of Horace sent by Frederic; expressing his satisfaction that Frederic has been "diligent and attentive" and has "escaped fines and censure"; noting that they want to see him, and telling him to "ask permission ... to leave college in ... May, or as soon as [he] can find a fellow traveller"; reminding him to bring all his clothes and any "bed linen [that] wants repairing"; discussing his plans for leaving Washington and travelling to New York; sending a message from his mother [Mary Alsop King] thanking him for his "offer to bring her anything she might want from Boston," but adding that "she has no order to trouble [him] with at present."
