Expressing his love for her and her family, and reiterating his desire "to find [him]self in the only scene where, for [him], the sweeter affections of life have any exercise"; explaining that he does not know when he will be able to leave; saying that he is going to write to her sister Maria and recommend that she go to Monticello "as soon as [his] stores ... shall be sent on from Richmond"; worrying that her children may have forgotten him.
