Discussing his health and the health of her sister Maria's family; commenting on the signs of spring in Philadelphia, and observing that "we have near two months in the year of vegetable life, and of animal happiness so far as they are connected, more in our canton than here"; noting that "letters ... from France give reason to believe they do not mean to declare war against us; but that they mean to destroy British commerce with all nations"; telling her that he bought a harpsichord for her sister Maria; mentioning a purchase of fruit trees, and commenting on the "difficulty of procuring horses for the farm."
