Telling her he approves of her "resolution to have the children inoculated"; reporting that he is "called to Philadelphia to a meeting of Congress the 15th of May"; encouraging her to come to Monticello with the children before he leaves in early May; asking her to tell Maria that he has "made a new law, which is only to answer letters. It would have been her turn to have received a letter had she not lost it by not writing."
