Thanking her for all the details of her daughter Anne's recovery; explaining that he has "been under an agitation of mind which [he] scarcely ever experienced before, produced by a check on [his] purpose of returning home at the close of this session of Congress"; telling her that he "may be detained [in Philadelphia] into the summer"; mentioning his project of building a canal, and indicating that he will write to Mr. Randolph with details about the work if he has to defer his departure.
