Complaining that his most recent letter from Monticello is six weeks old; telling her that he is "negotiating with the postmaster the establishment of a public post from Richmond to Staunton; mentioning that he is sending by Stratton "some stores against [his] arrival at Monticello," but the date of his arrival "is not yet fixable"; asking her to tell Maria that he "expect[s] to find her improved in all good things and particularly in her music."
