Discussing his travel plans for returning to Monticello; noting that "Colo. Randolph's marriage was to be expected," and recommending that she and Mr. Randolph try to stay on good terms with Col. Randolph [Martha's father-in-law]; counseling her to "love and cherish what is good" in her friends, "and keep out of the way of what is bad"; encouraging her to be "the link of love, union, and peace for the whole family."
