Summary
Discussing the departure of his godson, Lieutenant Raynsford, for the Cape; discussing his character and relating news of the Raynsford family situation since the death of Mr. Raynsford; commenting on the continuing illness of his sister [Amelia] saying "...alas! she is still in the same lingering state she has been in for months past, resembling more a Corpse than a living creature, and at this the Physicians yet hold out hopes of her ultimate recovery, I own I am not Sanguine enough to dare look forward to it--and if such is to be the result, her end would be a great release to her, as she is never without the most excruciating pain, and in fact the Medical Men, who have tried all means within their knowledge are to this hour ignorant as to the real nature of her complaint;" discussing his debts and a decrease in his Parliamentary income; relating news of appointments and promotions.
