Expressing his concern over the "misunderstanding that has arisen between you and General Murray;" relating, at length, his financial difficulties and his efforts to be assigned as Commander of the Forces in India; saying that he has been offered Commander in Chief of Forces in British North America and is considering the offer if he can be assured of sufficient extra allowances to secure a proper income to allow him to pay off his debts; discussing the possibilities of living at The Lodge if he does return to Halifax and giving specific and detailed instructions on the preparations that should be undertaken to ready the house for him; asking that he keep all the information about his possible assignment in Halifax confidential; discussing possible staff appointments should he be headquartered in Halifax.
