The letter, written in an unknown hand, is signed, with their symbols, by 8 Indian Chiefs and one "Chiefs brother" representing the "Thoawaes, Puttawattemas and Gibbiways" tribes.
The recipient, Prince Edward was the fourth son of King George III and father of Queen Victoria; Commander-in-chief of British forces in North America (1791-1802) and Governor of Gibraltar (1802-1820).
